Each week, we present a curated selection of several pre-owned items available in the Hodinkee Shop. This week, we begin with the Rolex Deepsea, a watch that undoubtedly exceeds expectations in terms of water resistance. We conclude the list with Omega’s homage to vintage dive watches, the Seamaster 300. In between, we feature a timepiece named after a comic book hero, a U.S. exclusive Grand Seiko, and a watch deserving of the iconic status associated with Cartier. So, grab your Saturday morning coffee and embark on the search for your next timepiece in this week’s edition of Pre-Owned Picks.

Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea Deep Blue Ref. 126660

If you are the kind of person who looks at a Submariner and thinks it’s a bit too dainty for your taste, then have I got a watch for you. The Sea-Dweller Deepsea takes the dive watch formula of the Rolex Submariner and injects it with enough steroids to make Jose Conseco blush. This results in a case that is 4mm larger in diameter and over 5mm thicker, oh, and it’s able to survive 3600 meters more of the ocean’s depths than the standard Submariner. To help counter the increased size of the Deepsea the lugs are a little shorter than the Submariner and curve down quickly towards the wrist, resulting in a large but not unwieldy 53mm lug-to-lug sizing.

Often called the “James Cameron” for its similar blue dial to a watch worn by the famous director
